Marcia Jane Wells O’Brien

Marcia Jane Wells O’Brien
Marcia Jane Wells O’Brien, 78, of Ashville, passed away following a month-long battle with cardiac complications on Thursday, March 20, 2025, at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. She was born in Jamestown on January 9, 1947, to the late Marcus H. Wells and Mildred A. Card Smith.
Jane will be remembered as the sweetest woman, caring for everyone all the time. Genuinely, her treatment of all others was that of familial closeness. If one was of her age, he was considered a sibling; moreover, all younger generations were seen to Jane as her children and grandchildren.
With a permanent smile on her face, Jane held many local jobs, including K-Mart, Sam’s Club, care giving at local assisted living facilities, and, most recently, fostering friendships through the apparel department at Wal Mart for the last five years.
A gardening lover, Jane’s petunias were always blooming, and her curb appeal was like none other thanks to her dedication to landscaping through her floral craft. Her festive spark glistened inside her home, forever decorating each holiday with pure joy.
Jane was a member of the Celoron Legion, the Lakewood Rod & Gun Club, and a life member of the Mayville VFW Post #8647 Ladies Auxiliary.
Jane enjoyed music and dancing, often going to see the Rustic Ramblers. She spent many hours listening to family and friends playing Bluegrass at family gatherings. She will be greatly missed by her children, grandchildren, family, and friends.
The generous, sincere spark Jane offered the world will be deeply missed by her children, Richard “Rick” (Heidi) Delahoy of Georgia and Nancy (Mike) Voty of Jamestown; her grandchildren, Michael Lawson, Ashely Stingel, Richard Jock, Brittany Delahoy, and Matthew Delahoy; eleven great-grandchildren; her twin brother, Marshall Wells; her brother, Alfred Wells; her sister-in-law, Donna Weatherlow; as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Besides her parents, Jane was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph O’Brien; her brother, Donald Wells, and her stepfather who adoringly raised her after her biological father’s passing early in her childhood, Myron “Mike” Smith.
Jane’s funeral will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, at Lind Funeral Home. Pamela Peterson, a minister and family member, will be officiating. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation from 4-7pm Tuesday, March 25, 2025, at Lind Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Chautauqua Hospice & Palliative Care for the ongoing end-of-life care they provide to so many families, 20 W Fairmount Ave, Lakewood, NY 14750.
