Bernadine T. Carlson

Bernadine T. Carlson

Bernadine T. Carlson, 95, of Jamestown, passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side on Wednesday, February 26, 2025. She was born in Dunkirk on November 9, 1929, to the late Edward and Ethel Rusbuldt Burgung.

A consistently unique sense of humor, Bernadine graduated from high school and held many jobs over the years. The most life-changing was her work in the cost department at Watson Manufacturing where she met her husband of almost 50 years, Lennart Carlson.

Together, Bernadine and Lennart lived decades side by side, being the steadies that one another lived for. Lennart is sure that they had the best marriage ever, fighting only a little and always making up, mostly in Bernadine’s favor. The couple was married June 6, 1975, and honeymooned in Niagara Falls where they made the best of a random cold snap week.

After Watson Manufacturing sold, Bernadine and Lennart spontaneously decided to move to the southwest. They managed a motel, followed by two years managing an apartment complex in Albuquerque, NM, and then another couple of years in Texas near their family. Eventually, hometown charm brought them back to Jamestown, where they adored turning their home on McDaniel into a true Victorian masterpiece.

While Bernadine lived life in perfect synchrony with Lennart, she maintained beautiful individual qualities. Her cooking and baking could not be topped; even so, she loved eating out and fancied their lunch dates at the bowling alley. Sewing, crocheting, and knitting kept her crafty hands busy.

Bernadine’s heart sang when she and Lennart traveled; frequent rides through the country made her beam. In later years, the couple volunteered through the grandparent foundation, supporting classrooms as grandparents at Frewsburg School. Bernadine became a beloved staple of the special education classroom by children who had difficulties learning, and her departure left a remembered void.

Bernadine’s radiance will be forever cherished by her husband, Lennart Carlson; her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great- great-grandchildren.

Besides her parents, Bernadine was preceded in death by her daughter Carolann Woodard.

In keeping with Bernadine’s wishes, no services or visitation will be observed.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
