Anne Reynolds Ballin

Anne Reynolds Ballin
Annie Ballin of New London began her next journey on the evening of Wednesday, March 19, 2025, surrounded by her family, friends and two beloved Black Labs, Birdie and Gracie. She was blessed to die at her home as the sun set, the light over Mount Kearsarge dimmed from daylight to a shimmering evening glow.
Anne D. Reynolds was born on August 7, 1962 in Jamestown, NY, the youngest of four children to be raised by Elsie and William Riggs Reynolds in neighboring Lakewood, NY. She and her brothers Billy, Dicky and her sister Kathy grew up on the shores of Lake Chautauqua in a community where everyone was considered family.
After graduation from Southwestern High School in 1980, Annie came to New London to enroll at Colby-Sawyer College, fell in love with the community and made it her home for the next 45 years. Annie was creative, curious and fearless. She was an artist, a teacher, a farmer and an entrepreneur whose positive spirit made life a better place for all. Annie loved to share her talents with children; she ran the Children’s ski program at King Ridge. As the Children’s Program Director at Tracy Memorial Library, she shared her love of art and reading with all. As a 4-H parent, she became the Oxen Superintendent at the State Fair. Annie served as a member of the Board of Trustee’s at Proctor Academy from 2006 to 2012, her creative genius touched all corners of that beautiful campus, including spearheading a major renovation of the home for the Head of School.
In 2004, Annie’s talent as a creative artist led her to become a sought after home design consultant, thus creating Annie Ballin & Co., a well respected design firm based in New London.
Annie is survived by her husband, Larry; son, Jack Kiernan and his expectant wife, Jada Secone of Richmond, VT, Ethan Ballin of Wilmot, NH and Megan, Howie and Jacqueline Schatzberg of Cave Creek, AZ. Additionally, Annie is survived by brother, William (Deborah) of Jamestown, NY, brother, Richard of Reno, NV and her sister and often traveling companion, Katherine Hirschfeld (Stephen) of San Francisco, CA. Annie had 54 first cousins, many nieces and nephews. Annie has a loyal and loving circle of friends whose support was critical throughout her life, especially as she battled cancer for the last ten years. Her family is forever grateful for their love and support. Annie will always be with us, her love and her light will always shine strong.
A fund in Annie’s name has been set up to support the Nursing Program at Colby-Sawyer College in New London, as so many graduates of that program participated in her health journey. Memorial gifts may be sent to: The Anne Reynolds Ballin ’82 Endowed Scholarship Fund for Nursing, Colby-Sawyer College, 541 Main Street, New London, NH 03257. www.colby-sawyer.edu
