Virginia A. (Cole) Thompson

Virginia A. (Cole) Thompson

Virginia A. Thompson, 89, passed away peacefully with her children at her side on Jan. 30, 2025 at the Grand Strand Medical Center, Myrtle Beach, S.C. while vacationing with family.

A lifelong area resident, she was born April 15, 1935 in Dunkirk, NY, and was the daughter of the late Martha and Richard Cole. Virginia was a high school graduate and married Burnell Mee and they had two children James and Mary.

She worked in the office of Anderson Winchester, worked alongside her husband in many bars and retired in the early 2000s from Jamestown Bowling Company where she worked with her children and grandchildren. After Burnell passed in 1975, she married Richard Thompson until his passing in 1992.

Virginia was an avid bowler as well as her children who she got involved with at an early age. She bowled all of her life, finally quitting in her early 80s. She held the office of secretary for many years in her ladies bowling league. She thoroughly enjoyed playing bingo and loved her NY Yankees. Her other favorite pastime was watching the Game Show Network and that kept her very sharp witted. She loved having her grandchildren over to spin records, eat pizza, and play rummy. She ultimately passed her sharp wit and sense of humor to her children and grandchildren. Besides having a special relationship with her family, she was especially close with her daughter Mary. The last several years every Thursday and Sunday were family dinner nights and no matter how many times she said “don’t give me too much” it never got old.

Virginia is survived by her son James Mee (Lisa Grasso); daughter Mary (David) Gayton; and her grandchildren Dain Erickson, Chelsey Mee (Jeff Wadsworth) and Chad Mee (Haley Carroll) as well as her brother Richard Cole (Lorraine), and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Richard and Martha Cole, brothers Donald, Robert and Melvin Cole, and her husbands Burnell Mee and Richard Thompson.

Friends will be received by the family from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 15, 2025 in the Falconer Funeral Home. Her funeral service will be held at 11 am following the visitation in the funeral home. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery in Falconer.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Jamestown Bowling Company immediately following the funeral service. It would have been her 90th birthday.
