Sylvia Diane Covell
Sylvia Diane Covell passed away peacefully on January 28, 2025 at the Conesus Lake Nursing Home, Livonia, NY.
Sylvia was born on December 23, 1939, in Jamestown, NY to Harold and Signe Crandall. She grew up in Jamestown and Kennedy, NY and was a graduate of Falconer Central High School. Sylvia married her husband, David R. Covell, on September 2, 1968 and they spent the next 48 years in Falconer raising their daughters, Diane and Darlene. After David’s passing in 2017, Sylvia and Diane moved to Honeoye Falls, NY to be closer to Darlene and her family.
Sylvia was a very selfless person, spending her adult life doing more for others than for herself. She was an active member of the Kennedy First United Methodist Church until she moved away. During her years there, she sat on many committees and spent countless hours helping with various mission projects and fundraisers. Sylvia also hosted many family and holiday gatherings, always making sure to invite friends or family that would otherwise not have a place to go. She and David also made sure to check in on their aunts and uncles, Art and Marge Olson, Ruth McKinley, and Philis and Gerald Osgood, visiting them all often and taking them out for Friday night fish fries.
Sylvia dedicated her life to her family. She and her daughter Diane had a very special relationship, and Sylvia committed her life to caring for Diane. They were inseparable until Sylvia was not able to care for Diane due to her health. Sylvia also loved her grandchildren and enjoyed making cookies and “the best banana bread ever” for them.
Sylvia is survived by her daughter Darlene (Carl) Vullo and grandchildren, Emma, Mary, and Daniel Vullo, as well as her sister Shirley (Jerry) Green and her brother Donald Crandall. She was preceded in death by her parents Harold and Signe Crandall, her husband David and her daughter Diane.
The family would like to thank the staff at Conesus Lake Nursing Home as well as Livingston County Hospice for their compassionate care during Sylvia’s final days.
A memorial service will be held in Kennedy, NY in the Spring.
