Mary Michele Sadlack, 78, of Bemus Point, passed away Thursday, February 20, 2025 at UPMC Chautauqua. An area resident since 2014, she was born May 15, 1946 in Tonawanda, NY, and was the daughter of the late Clair and Margaret Canavan Rew.
Mary Michele, a dedicated scholar, began her education at Nazareth College in Rochester, NY, where she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in English Studies in 1968. Pursuing her passion for education, she obtained a Master’s in Education from Saint Louis University in 1969 before achieving a Juris Doctor from Georgetown Law School in Washington, DC in 1980.
She had worked as an English teacher in St. Louis, substitute taught at BOCES and was also a paralegal locally. Mary found great joy and satisfaction during her years as manager of the gift shop and bookstore at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, DC.
Known as ‘the church lady’ by her family in younger years, Mary Michele was a devoted member of St. Mary of Lourdes Catholic Church. She was always very involved in many aspects of her church in Bemus Point.
Mary Michele was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother whose faith was the foundation of her life. She found immense joy in guiding her own children as well as grandchildren with kindness, wisdom, and unwavering support, always leading by example through her belief in God. Her legacy of faith and love will continue to shine through the lives of those she held so dear.
Surviving are her three children: Dr. Christopher Sadlack, and wife, Rachel Sadlack of Atlanta, GA, Jason Sadlack, and wife, Anita Sadlack of Warrenton, VA, and Heather Sadlack of Blairstown, NJ; as well as eight grandchildren: William and Andrew Sadlack, Bella, Hunter, Christian, and twins Ashton and Alexis Sadlack, and Ryley Shandick.
Mary Michele was preceded in death by her parents, Clair and Margaret Canavan Rew and her brother, Richard Rew.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 15th, 2025 at St. Mary of Lourdes Church in Bemus Point, NY. The Rev. David Tourville will be celebrant. Burial will be in Bemus Point Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, March 14th in the Lind Funeral Home.
