Lawrence Howie

A Jamestown native, Larry was born July 31, 1946, a son of the late David Howie and Marylee Cunningham. Following high school, he served in the US Air Force from 1964 to 1968. He was also a 33-year employee of Cummins Engine, working in testing and later assisting in instruction of computer technology.

Larry enjoyed music, both listening to but also playing bass, especially for his church, Emmanuel Baptist. Together with his wife, Carla, he loved gardening and raising flowers, particularly lilies. He also enjoyed sports, golf and playing cards with family and friends.

Along with his wife Carla, surviving are daughters, Laurie (Chadwick) Marshall and Cameron Howie, both of Georgia, and Lauren Fernandez of Olean; son, Samuel (Teena) Borland of Warren; daughter, Jody Nelson of Sugar Grove; and son, Jacob (Kate) Borland of Tidioute. Also surviving are grandchildren, Chirette (Rico) Crawford, Graham Leeper and Corrine Leeper; great-grandchildren, Masiah Jones, and Kiahmara Jones; as well as grandchildren, Cheyanna, Samuel Jr., Logan, Brock, Lainey, and Ava, and great-grandson, Colton; a brother, Levon Cunningham; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Loretta Ruiz and two brothers, David “Boogie” Howie Jr. and Leonard Howie.

The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until 12 noon Thursday, Feb. 13 in the Lind Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin at 12 Thursday following visitation. Rev. Reggie Smith will officiate. Burial will be in Veteran’s Grove of Lake View Cemetery.
