Irene A. (Fairbanks) Shoup
On Thursday, February 6, 2025, Irene A. (Fairbanks) Shoup left this world peacefully at the home of her son Rodney in Gerry NY. Born on February 28, 1933 in Jamestown NY, she was the second oldest of four children to Theodore “Ted” and Elsie (Anderson) Fairbanks.
Irene married Robert H. Shoup of Falconer NY on August 23, 1952. Robert and Irene began their marriage living at the “farmhouse” on Alfred State College, Alfred NY, where Robert taught agriculture. They moved to Alfred Station, Busti and Middleport NY raising their four children.
After attending Olean High School Irene later earned her master’s degree in education at the University of Buffalo while her children were in high school. She taught at St. Mary’s Catholic School and Medina Elementary. She also received her private pilot’s license after her children were all out on their own.
Irene moved to Mentor-on-the Lake OH, Burnsville MN, and Kansas City MO following her husband’s career. She continued as a Librarian at all of these locations. Upon retirement, they moved to Sun City AZ where Irene volunteered in the public library. The couple always enjoyed traveling and traveled extensively in the US as well as Europe, Canada, and Mexico.
Surviving are three children, Robert H. Shoup, II, AZ: Rodney (Priscilla Yeskey). Gerry NY; Darlene, Jamestown NY; and daughter-in-law Lori (Jackowitz) Shoup, Latrobe PA. Eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Preceded by her husband, Robert, November 5, 2013, Sun City AZ and youngest son Ronald Patrick, January 10, 2022, Duke Center PA.
There will be no services at this time. The family will have a celebration of life gathering to be held at a later date.
