Charles W. Crossley, III, “Chuckmann”

Charles W. Crossley, III, “Chuckmann”

Charles W. Crossley, III, “Chuckmann,” passed away in Bemus Point, following a long battle with cancer, on February 22, 2025. He was born in Jamestown on September 20, 1963, to Kay Carr Crossley and the late Charles W. Crossley, Jr.

Chuck graduated from Maple Grove High School in 1982 and maintained fixed roots in the area, building relationships through work at Barmore Sellstrom, The Surf Club, The Hotel Lenhart, the VFW, and the War Vets.

A social Bemus Point icon, Chuckmann was a lifelong staple of the village, not only known but beloved by locals and vacationers alike. Albeit a quiet soul, Chuck was social and emanated joy through his constant giggles and laughter. He tried to help everybody no matter the need and, even if it wasn’t his, he managed to never miss a class reunion.

There are Deadheads, and then there was Chuckmann: a proud extremist for the power in Classic Rock. He also enjoyed watching classic TV alongside habituating his artistic skills, whether it was drawing, painting, or creating abstracts. Chuck fought the generalization that men have terrible handwriting with his excellent penmanship.

A confirmand of Bemus Point Methodist Church, Chuck belonged to the church as well as to the VFW and to the War Vets. Remarkably, Chuck was a lifetime member of the Bemus Point Volunteer Fire Department with utmost pride.

Chuck will be forever remembered by his mother, Kay Crossley; his siblings, William (Charity) Crossley, Gerald Smyczek, Michelle Smyczek, and Brian Smyczek; his nieces and nephews whom he adored and took for ice cream with great frequency, Lucas Smyczek, James Eastham, Nicholas (Harmony) Crossley, Alexis (Tony) Frangione, Makenzee Smyczek, Myah Crossley, and Will Crossley; great-nieces and great-nephews, Leovonni Smyczek and Alyvia Eastham; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

The memorial service for Chuckmann will be at 1:00pm on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at Bemus Point Methodist Church. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation for two hours prior to the service at church, from 11-1pm Saturday. A luncheon will follow.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Bemus Point Volunteer Fire Department, 13 Alburtus Avenue, Bemus Point, NY 14712, or to the Bemus Point Methodist Church, 4954 Bemus-Ellery Road 9737, Bemus Point, NY 14712.
