Burnette “Bud” John Carlson, 88, of Jamestown, passed away Sunday, February 9, 2025, at Heritage Park Health Care Center.

Born September 12, 1936, to Ernest and Sigrid Carlson of Falconer, Bud graduated from Falconer High School in 1954. He attended Jamestown Community College while working various jobs before transferring to Purdue University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Aeronautical Engineering in 1962.

Bud’s career began at Sikorsky Aircraft in Connecticut. Upon starting a family, he soon returned to the Jamestown area, where he remained for the rest of his life, except for a short stint in the Philadelphia suburbs. In Jamestown, he worked for MRC/SKF and Blackstone, taught classes at JCC, and concluded his career teaching engineering at Penn State Behrend in Erie, Pa.

In 1961, Bud married Betty Ann Carlson of Jamestown. Together, they raised their sons, Tim and Glenn. A skilled handyman, Bud built much of the family house on Park St in Jamestown, often tackling challenging projects with determination.

Bud’s lifelong passion was radio control model airplanes, which he meticulously built from kits. He was an active member of all three RC clubs in the Jamestown area and one in Sebring, FL, where he spent winters for the last 20 years. His other hobbies included fishing, winemaking, and company team bowling. Bud enjoyed visiting both San Diego and North Carolina, spending cherished time with his three grandsons.

Bud is survived by his son Tim (Daria) Carlson and their sons Finley and Miles of San Diego, CA; his son Glenn (Sarah) Carlson and their son Ben of Mooresville, NC; and his niece Amy (Tim) Rossman of Scandia, PA and their sons, Neil and Mitchell Rossman, both of Pittsburgh, PA.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Betty Ann Carlson, his parents, Ernest and Sigrid, his brother Darwin, and his nephew Bradley.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 pm on Friday, February 28th, at Lind Funeral Home.
