Richard G. Riggle

Richard Glen “Rick” Riggle, 76, of Weeki Wachee, FL, formerly of Jamestown, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, Jan. 9, 2025, in Tampa, FL. Rick was born in Jamestown on July 24, 1948, to the late Charles G. and Frances Edith Adams Riggle.

Graduating from Jamestown High School in 1966, Rick attended Jamestown Community College before being drafted into the U.S. Marines. He served in Vietnam for one year as an Artillery FO before his honorable discharge in 1969.

The love of his life, Maria Pia Gampietro Riggle, became his wife on July 6, 1974. They had their son, Shaun, five years later, and built a miraculous life as a family.

Carborundum Monofrax was Rick’s first employer before continuing to work at the then Blackstone Corp. A layoff perpetuated Rick’s further education, when a federal grant enabled him to graduate with high honors in computer technology and electronics. Upon his re-hire, Rick worked for Mark 4, Valeo, and retired as a process auditor from TitanX.

Rick found great solace in the outdoors. Many trips to the Outer Banks with family and friends remained his happiest travel memories, where he would spend countless hours fishing. So, too, did he and Maria loved boating on their pontoon for over 20 years on the Allegheny Reservoir. The lake days and camp nights with friends will forever be treasured.

Rick and Maria celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in July 2024. This brought back endless reflections of times spent together. Markedly, they often reminisced about their two trips to Italy, each time staying one month, to soak in the culture and visit family.

Science fiction held Rick’s attention, as he was an avid reader. His collection of comic books, especially Marvel, counts into the thousands.

After relocating to Florida, Rick played horseshoes and excelled at the Brook Ridge Horseshoe Club where he remained treasurer.

Whether it was online gaming with his son, Shaun, over the last 11 years while he lived south, or movie nights followed by beating Maria at Trivial Pursuit, Rick’s vivacious compassion for his family will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

Rick leaves behind his wife, Maria Pia Riggle; his son, Shaun Riggle of Jamestown; his brother, Earl (Joni) Riggle of Sinclairville; nephews, Graham, Mason (Melissa), Nathan, and Matthew; as well as his great-nieces and -nephews, Emily and Owen Riggle, Justice Waddington, Bianca Riggle, Ethan Riggle, and Paisely Riggle.

The funeral service for Rick will be at 11 am on Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2025, at Lind Funeral Home. Reverend Paul Cygan will officiate. The family will receive family and friends for a time of visitation from 3-6 pm Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2025, at Lind’s.
