Paul C. Ransom
Paul C. Ransom, 89, of Melbourne, FL, formerly of Wiltsie Rd, Frewsburg, died at 11:55 a.m. on Wednesday (December 11, 2024) at The William Childs Hospice,House after a brief episode of pneumonia. Previously he had been living with hisloving wife, Beverly, at the Life Care Center of Melbourne.
He was born April 8, 1935 in Perrysburg, NY a son of Louise (Hoffmann) and CareyRansom. He was the 2nd youngest of their seven children with only his youngest sister, Lorraine Gugino, stillsurviving.
He met Beverly (Billquist) on a blind date in Jamestown, NY and they were married on his birthday, April 8, 1955 at Hurlbut Memorial Church in Chautauqua Institute.
Paul was entrepreneurial by nature and started many ventures. At the age of 34, with a 13-year-old daughter, an 8-year-old son and another son on the way he and Bev bought a property in Frewsburg, NY where he built their home and then bought The Igloo, a local ice cream and food stand. At the age of 40 he took another chance and bought the equipment, name and goodwill for Swanson’s Potato Chips, that had been run as a one-man business by its founder, Chet Swanson, since 1960. A few years later he partnered to start SanRan Industries, a wood veneer company. Their major client was Wilson SporUng Goods until the advent of graphite replaced wood tennis rackets.
In 1991 Paul and Beverly moved to Rockledge, FL where they lived happily in the sunshine near to family, to be hands-on grandparents and making many new friends.
Besides his wife he is survived by his children: Cynthia of Paso Robles, CA; Jeffrey and his wife Marie of Rochester, NY; Jason and his wife Rebecca of W. Melbourne, FL; as well as four grandchildren, McKenzie and husband Nick Colon of Rochester, NY; Chaz Darrow of San Francisco, CA; Riley and Reese Ransom of W. Melbourne and two great-granddaughters RaeLynn and Tegan Colon.
There will be a CelebraUon of Life on April 8, 2025 which would have been his and Beverly’s 70th wedding anniversary.
The family suggest memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
