Maurice M. “Maury” Wright

Maurice M. “Maury” Wright
Maurice M. “Maury” Wright, 72, of Jamestown, passed away peacefully with his family by his side, on Thursday, January 23, 2025. He was born in Jamestown on March 26, 1952, to the late Cecil M. and Joyce Panter Wright.
Maury graduated from Southwestern High School in 1970 and attended Jamestown Community College. A mechanic at heart, Maury was a “fixer” of all things, always reminding others to, “work smarter, not harder.” Before retirement, he made his career as an auto mechanic, lastly employed by Kev’s Automotive.
There was not a problem Maury could not solve. He led with kindness and helped anyone and everyone at the drop of a hat. His skills spanned from carpentry to home projects, independently building and improving upon his home with pride. Maury knew where every tool resided in his shed and loved repairing others’ obstacles.
An avid motorcycle rider, Maury valued a good campfire alongside his family. The flavors produced by his master grilling will forever be savored by loved ones, especially the tastes of his steaks. So, too, will his family order Manhattans for years to come in memory of his fondness for them; now, though, they will ask for two cherries: one for Papa and one for Maury.
Maury’s core was consistently his family. It began when he was 21 and met his19 year old sweetheart, Bonnie. Maury proposed on June 9 and, together, they solidified their unwavering love when they married on September 15, 1973. Budding adoration grew into raising two daughters and enjoying doting over eventual grandchildren. To this day, the grandchildren know that, “Papa gave the best hugs” and that he, “was HILARIOUS.”
The devout love between Maury and Bonnie weathered many seasons. Without a doubt, it was Bonnie’s unending care for Maury that enabled him to live so many years amidst health issues. Throughout tender and trying times alike, Bonnie’s only regrets are that she didn’t find Maury sooner and that she didn’t go first.
Maury found his religion all around, fully trusting in the hope of the resurrection. It deserves mention that Maury cared to share two prolific verses of which he turned to: first, John 5:28-29, “Do not be amazed at this, for a time is coming when all who are in their graves will hear his voice and come out – those who have done what is good will rise to live, and those who have done what is evil will rise to be condemned;” and second, Job 14:15, “He will call and they will answer.”
Maury’s love for his family will be deeply missed by his wife, Bonnie Frazier Wright; his daughters, Pamela (Thomas) Warner of Ashville, and Erin Johnson of Jamestown; and his grandchildren, Brooke and Patrick Warner, and Connor and Mikayla Johnson.
Besides his parents, Maury was preceded in death by his sister, Terry Wright, and his brother, Kevin Wright.
In keeping with Maury’s wishes, no formal services or visitation will be held. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date as the family feels moved to do so.
Flowers are respectfully declined by the family. Instead, memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, PO Box 7023, Merrifield, VA 22116-7023, or to the Kidney Foundation of WNY, 4444 Bryant and Stratton Way, Williamsville, NY 14221.
