Mary Kay (Courtney) Mayer
John A. McCanna, 77, beloved husband, father, Papa and brother, of 153 Connecticut Avenue, died Friday Jan. 17, 2025, in his home surrounded by loved ones.
Born Aug., 11, 1947, in Warren, PA, he was the son of Francis “Peck” and Alice Pixley McCanna.
He was a 1965 graduate of Jamestown High School and earned a bachelor’s degree from Baldwin Wallace University.
John worked as a car salesman his entire career. He started with his father as owners of Whitney and Wood in Panama, followed by many years at Shults Auto.
He was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church, Jamestown Skeet and Trap Club, Jamestown Rotary and Lakewood Rod and Gun Club. He also had been very active in First Covenant and Zion Covenant churches in the past.
Surviving is his wife Beth Baldwin McCanna, whom he married Aug. 2, 1980; two daughters Heather (Jon) Meyer of Jamestown and Rebecca (Justin) Hollm of Greenville, SC; seven grandchildren Leala and John Carlson, Kieran and Landon Meyer, Heidi, Cooper, and Callan Hollm, and a sister Mary Alice (Richard) Boller of Nashville, TN.
A memorial service will be held at 1 pm Monday Jan. 27, 2025, in Hillcrest Baptist Church.
Friends will be received from 2-4 pm Sunday, Jan. 26 in the Lind Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hillcrest Baptist Church or Love INC SCC.
