Mabel M. (Piazza) Skellie
Mabel M. (Piazza) Skellie, age 88, of Findley Lake, NY, passed on her dad’s birthday January 4 2025 at UPMC Hamot.
She was born on June 26, 1936 in Phillipsburg, New Jersey to the late Salvatore and Rosina (Frankina) Piazza.
Mabel was formerly employed by Sunshine Packing, Keystone Foods, Better Baked Foods, Millers Department Store, and loved babysitting for various families.
She was a member of St. Gregory Thaumaturgus Church and the Findley Lake Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.
Mabel enjoyed sewing, baking, gardening and was very involved in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s lives and sporting events. She hosted many family pizza gatherings throughout her lifetime.
She was a CORE skin tissue donor for traumatic burn patients in honor of her sister, Virginia Fletcher.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Christopher, Charles, Columbus, and Floyd Piazza; brother-in-law, Robert Skellie; and sisters, Concetta Conn and Virginia Fletcher.
Mabel is survived by her husband of 59 years John H. Skellie whom she married April 24, 1965; daughters, Esther M. Bailey (Edward) of French Creek and Rosina M. Wade (Mike) of Clymer, NY; grandchildren, Justin, Monte (Samantha), Megan (Nathaniel), Jonathon, Tara (Daniel), Clifford (Kaylee), Jennifer (Thomas), James, and Jordan; great-grandchildren, Abby, Levi, Lily, Grayson, Isla, Teddy, Archie, Anabelle, Benny, Griffin, Ace, and Jett; brothers, John and Frank Piazza of North East; sisters, Evelyn Tartarella, Adriena Piazza, Frances Evans, and Mary Dimperio Rex all of North East; sister-in-law, Betty Skellie of Findley Lake; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Family and friends may call at the William D. Elkin Funeral Home, 65 South Lake Street, North East on Thursday from 3:00 pm until 7:00 pm and are invited to attend a prayer service on Friday at 10:00 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am at St. Gregory Church, 48 South Pearl Street, North East. Private interment will be held at St. Gregory Cemetery.
