LeRoy Leonard Holmberg (Roy)

LeRoy Leonard Holmberg “Roy”, 90, of Jamestown NY passed away January 4, 2025. He was born on May 14,1934 in Erie PA to the late Ethel and Axel Holmberg.

He resided in the Jamestown area for most of his life. He graduated from Jamestown High School in 1952. After graduation he enlisted in the US Marine Corps. He served for 4 years in US Marine Corp. He served in the Korean war for 8 months in 1953. After serving in US Marine Corp he returned to Jamestown area. He left to go to California to be with his brother and became a truck driver while living out there.

He then returned to Jamestown in 1963, where he got married and started a family. He worked at numerous furniture plants. Then he started working for Carrier Coach and drove for them for about 12 years and later retired. He was a proud fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates and being an avid bowler since he was seven he bowled in various bowling leagues.

He was preceded in death by a son Riki Verganjik, his sister Ethel Rutland, two brothers Eugene and Roger Holmberg, a daughter Karin Holmberg and Aunt and Uncle Hilma and Frank Johnson who raised him and his sister after young untimely death of his parents, a son in law Eric Smouse.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years Barbara J Holmberg, son Jeffrey Holmberg, daughters Rebecca Howard (Dave), Rachel Szentgyorgyi (Paul), Stephanie Holmberg (Jim), Crystal Holmberg,step-son Jordan Clifton, his grandchildren Dylan Holmberg, Jeffrey Holmberg 2, James Smouse, Monica Pacheco, Renee Reithel, Deanna Reithel. Brittany Reithel, Thomas Jolly, Savanna Jolly, Karin Blodien, Elizabeth Quackenbush. Matthew Olson and several great grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
