Jean M. Blodien
Jean M. Blodien, age 95, of Erie, died peacefully on January 11, 2025 at Elmwood Gardens.
She was born in Erie July 19, 1929, the daughter of the late Carl Theodore and Ingrid Skoog Blodien.
She graduated from Strong Vincent High School in 1947, attended Luther College in New Jersey and graduated from Erie Business College in 1951.
She worked in various locations throughout her career including Chicago where she had been the secretary to the Social Service Director of Augustana Nursery and secretary to the Field Director of the Central Area, National Lutheran Council, Division of College and University Work. In 1958, she moved to Stockton, CA and was a minister’s assistant at Faith Lutheran Church and then a pastor’s secretary at the First Presbyterian Church there. In 1964, she returned to Erie and later became secretary at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, and secretary to the Senior pastors of the First Presbyterian Church of the Covenant. From 1983 until 1991 she was employed at F.B.I. Headquarters, in Washington, D.C., at which time she retired and returned to Erie. During retirement she was employed as an office assistant for Dr. M. Lee Tarno, D.D.S.
She was a very active member of the First Presbyterian Church of the Covenant where she was in the choir, served as a deacon and elder, was a member of various committees, the U.P.W. and Primetimers. She was a member of the Friends of Sarah Reed.
She was preceded in death by her brother Carl in 1964 and sister-in-law Lucinda Blodien.
Survivors include two nephews: Thomas C. Blodien, Jamestown, NY; John F. Blodien, Jamestown, NY; a niece Tammi Rae Blodien; a great nephew Reginald Edward Blodien and his wife Karen; great nieces Karlie Rae Blodien and Cora Ann Blodien; a great great nephew Arland Warren Blodien as well as several cousins.
Friends may call on the family at the First Presbyterian Church of the Covenant, 250 West 7th Street on Saturday January 18 from 10am until the time of the service at 12pm with Pastor Chris Weichman officiating. Interment in Laurel Hill Cemetery.
