Janice Bowen Thompson

Janice Bowen Thompson, 76, of Kyle, Texas, passed away December 29, 2024, surrounded by her family.

Janice was born September 1, 1948, in Jamestown, NY to loving parents Irvin and Edythe Bowen.

Janice was a 1966 graduate of Panama Central School. She continued her education at Syracuse University where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree in 1970.

She was a loving, caring, and devoted wife, daughter, sister, mother, and grandmother. Her positive attitude was contagious as was her smile. She always loved to sing a happy tune at work, at home, or whenever the spirit moved her. She enjoyed watching her kids and grandkids play sports and musical instruments, sing, and dance.

As a Registered Nurse she worked in Pediatrics and finished her career in Allergy and Asthma. Nursing was not a job as much as an embodiment of life for Janice. She was always there to lend a hand to others and was described by many as ‘the nurse of nurses.

After retirement, she worked with her husband as an Elections Clerk for Hays County in Texas where she developed many special new friendships. In addition, she enjoyed working out with the ladies at the Onion Creek Senior Center and playing Bunco.

The friendships she developed over the years were cherished by her. She loved sending cards to her friends in celebration of anniversaries, birthdays, and holidays.

Janice is survived by her husband Larry Thompson, of Kyle, Texas, whom she married September 26, 1970; her children: Jennifer (Eric) Berg of Livermore, California, Chris Thompson (Liliya Yudzinskaya) of Austin, Texas, and Chad (Sarah) Thompson of Round Rock, Texas; her grandchildren Andrew Berg, Katie and Alex Thompson, and Avigail Thompson; and her brother Richard E. Bowen of Ashville, New York.

Funeral services for Janice will be held at 2 pm Thursday, January 9, 2025, at the Lind Funeral Home in Jamestown, New York. Friends will be received two hours prior to the service from 12 to 2pm at the funeral home. Janice will be laid to rest at Sunset Hill Cemetery in Lakewood, New York.
