Francis E. “Fran” Lus

Francis E. “Fran” Lus, a revered member of the Brocton community, beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on January 1, 2025, at the venerable age of 92 in Dunkirk, NY. Born on July 10, 1932, to Angelo and Mary (Russo) Lus, Fran lived a life marked by service, dedication, and familial love.

A valiant veteran, Fran served his country in the United States Air Force from 1950 to 1954 during the tumultuous times of the Korean War. His commitment to his hometown never wavered, as he served as the Village Clerk for the Village of Brocton, NY, for an impressive 30 years. He also represented his community as a Chautauqua County Legislator for 12 years and contributed to the well-being of many as an employee at Morse Funeral Home for 30 years.

Fran’s community spirit was further exemplified in his role as the American Legion Chaplain and Treasurer at Post 434 in Brocton, where he consistently demonstrated his heartfelt support for fellow veterans and their families. A proud graduate of Brocton Central Schools, Fran dedicated himself to lifelong learning and service.

A devout Catholic, Fran was an active member of St. Dominic’s Church in Brocton, offering his time as a Eucharistic Minister and a member of the Holy Name Society. His joyous spirit and generous heart were evident in everything he did, whether it was cheering on his beloved New York Yankees, supporting the Buffalo Bills, or spending cherished moments with his family.

Predeceased by his devoted wife Sheila, parents Angelo and Mary, his brother Charles, and sisters Josephine, Olinda, and Norma, Fran’s legacy lives on through his son Gary Lus; daughters Gail (John) Derderian, Julie Sanderson; grandchildren Ryan, Jordan, Jennifer, and Gary; and his three adored great-grandchildren Zayden, Gabrielle and Gage.

Francis “Fran” E. Lus leaves behind a legacy of unwavering dedication to his family, country, and community, touching the lives of all who knew him. He was a remarkable man whose memory will be cherished forever.

There will be a visitation March 13, 2025 at Morse Funeral Home with a mass of Christian Burial being held March 14, 2025 at St. Dominic’s Roman Catholic Church in Brocton, NY Times will be announced at a later date

Interment will be in Portland Evergreen Cemetery
