Donald E. Deering Sr.
Donald E. Deering, Sr., 97, formerly of Falconer, passed away Wednesday (January 8, 2025) in Heritage Green Rehab and Skilled Nursing.
Donald was born August 17, 1927, in Sheridan, NY, the son of the late George and Vera DeGolier Deering.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean War from 1950 to 1952. Prior to retiring in 1995, Don was employed by Jamestown Sterlingworth for 45 years.
Don was a member of the Herman Kent Post American Legion, and enjoyed spending time with his family, attending grandchildren’s events, gardening, birdwatching, bingo, and camping.
Surviving is his wife of 75 years, Norma M. Hunt Deering, whom he married October 1, 1949, in Dunkirk, NY; a son, Donald E. (Barbara) Deering Jr. of Celeron; and daughters Cheryl (Herbert) Pierce of Fredonia, Laurie (Kevin) Chisholm of Lake Frederick, Virginia, and Kathy Deering (Tammy Hawkins) of Clymer; eight grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers: Gilbert, George, and Robert Deering, and a sister, Erma Jean Scott.
A private memorial graveside service will be held at a later date. Visitation will not be observed.
Memorials may be donated to the Falconer Fire Department, Chautauqua County Humane Society, or a charity of one’s choice.
