Daniel J. Conlan, 89, of Frewsburg, NY, passed away peacefully on December 24, 2024. Born on August 8, 1935, in Olean, NY, Daniel was the son of the late Daniel and Eileen Conlan and older brother to Colleen (Spencer) and Martin Conlan

A proud graduate of Salamanca High School, Daniel excelled in both track and field and football. After high school, he honorably served in the United States Army, First Cavalry Division.

Following his service, he earned an associate’s degree from Bryant & Stratton College in Buffalo. Daniel had a long and distinguished career as a member of the Salamanca Police Dept from 1958-1962 and the New York State Police Dept, having served from 1962-1994, and served the last 12 years as a BCI Investigator.

Daniel was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Kay (O’Brien) Conlan whom he married April 11, 1959; his parents, Daniel and Eileen Conlan; son-in-law Rick Berg; and sister, Colleen Spencer.

He is survived by his daughter, Kelley Berg, sons: Kevin (Debbie), Shane (Caroline), and Michael (A’Lynn); along with his 11 grandchildren: Christopher, Eric, and Annie Berg; Ryann Sadowski and Tyler Conlan; Patrick, Christopher, Mary Katherine and Daniel Conlan, Quinn and Gracie Conlan; and 5 great-grandchildren: Trey, Kade, and Drake Sadowski, Cameron Conlan, and Madeline Berg. Daniel’s greatest pride and joy were his children and grandchildren.

A resident of Frewsburg for many years, Daniel was cherished by his neighbors, friends and family, for his kindness, humor, humility, and readiness to help anyone in need. His dedication to family and community was matched only by his love of the outdoors, where he spent many days enjoying nature, hiking, biking, and canoeing.

A Memorial Mass to celebrate Daniel’s life will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at 11:00 AM at St. James Roman Catholic Church in Jamestown, NY. There will be no viewing.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Daniel’s honor to The Jamestown Audubon Community Nature Center, 1600 Riverside Rd, Frewsburg, NY 14738.

Daniel will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend as well as a public servant whose legacy will live in the hearts of all who knew him. Rest in peace Dad.
