Anna Mae Hurst

She was born January 31, 1934 in Clymer, NY to the late Jesse and Berdena Lookenhouse.

Following graduation from Clymer Central School, Anna married Frederick Jame Hurst (Jim). They moved to Virginia until Jim completed his service in the U.S. Navy. Afterwards, they returned to Sherman to raise their family. They shared nearly 50 years of marriage.

Anna held several jobs during her lifetime but the bookkeeper position at Farmers Mill was where she was most in her element. Having grown up on a dairy farm, she enjoyed helping the farmers with their orders and accounts. She always kept a treat in her desk drawer for the children that came along.

After retiring, Anna spent time singing hymns while playing her piano and organ. The greatest days of joy came from playing a challenging game of Pinochle with Jim her brother, Wilbur. Some days were like a marathon, stopping briefly for a small lunch.

Anna was fortunate to enjoy some sunny winters in Florida with her companion, Paul Bennett. They played in the orchestra and shared time fixing and serving breakfast in the community center.

She always gave with unselfish love to her family. She leaves behind 3 children, Bryan (Sandy) Hurst, Karen (Steve) Persons, Brenda (George) Carlson, 4 grandchildren, Mitch (Alexis) Carutis, Edward Carutis (Grace), Katie (Kirk) Snyder, Bill (Velvet) Persons, 4 stepchildren, Sky (David) Wideman, Rhianna (Christopher) Godios, Cailley (Sean) Macaluso, Aislyn Carlson, 5 great grandchildren, Erin Carutis (Sean Greene), Tayden and Talon Persons, Madison and Mallory Snyder, 6 step greatgrandchildren, Ben and Gabe Wiseman, Henry Carlson, Giorgio, Gianni and Nicolena Macaluso.

She was predeceased in death by her husband, Jim, a brother, Wilbur, and grandson, Lee.

A private service for family was held at Spitzers Funeral Home in Clymer, NY on January 26, 2025.
