Ronald P. Ohl
Ronald P. Ohl, one of the proudest Swedes in town, passed away comfortably at home on Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2024 following a valiant battle with cancer. Living 81 years, Ronald was born in Jamestown on Oct. 6, 1943, to the late Per and Agnes Swanson Ohl.
Ron was a man who remained dedicated to his passions. Following high school graduation, he was not only employed by but deeply invested in Crescent Tool Company. Far beyond the company’s relocation, Ron maintained an impressive Crescent tool collection, traveling from one household sale to the next in search of double-ended Crescent wrenches. Reminiscing with friends about the business was also a steadfast highlight, as he became a historian around the enterprise.
Following the closure of Crescent Tools’ Jamestown operations, Ron was then employed at the BPU Water Department. He loved working at the BPU and often reminisced about the fond memories shared with his coworkers, which he viewed as dear friends. Retiring from the BPU Water Department, Ron was able to spend even more time upholding his Swedish heritage. His scouting for Crescent tools was only ever outdone by the accompaniment of his collecting Swedish Dala horses. Socially speaking, Ron was a lifelong member of the Vikings Ingjald Lodge as well as faithfully volunteering at the Scandinavian Festival each year.
Above all, Ron lived for his son and grandchildren. He did not miss an event, only ever wanting to keep life convenient for others while maintaining a close bond with his family. He will be deeply missed by his son, Andy (Beth) Ohl of Jamestown; grandchildren: Marley Ohl, Ryan Ohl, Marlei Armstrong, and Alex Armstrong; great-granddaughter, Maren Kilmer; sister, Diane (Ronald) Seighman; many nieces and nephews who were especially beloved; as well as a number of lifelong friends with which he remained eternally close.
Besides his parents, Ron was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia “Pat” Ohl on July 12, 2012.
The family will receive friends for a time of visitation from 4-6pm on Sunday, Dec. 29, 2024, at Lind Funeral Home. A private family burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Chautauqua Hospice & Palliative Care, 20 W Fairmount Ave., Lakewood, NY 14750.
