Richard Max Straitiff Sr.
Richard Max Straitiff Sr. 78, passed away in his home on Friday November 22, 2024. He was born on December 3, 1945. The son of the late Dr. Max and Svea Straitiff.
He was a member of St. Mary of Lourdes Catholic Church in Mayville NY. He was also a Marine in the Reserves, but never deployed. He grew up in Buffalo NY, where he attended Manlius Military Academy and graduated from Orchard Park High School. From there he graduated with his bachelor’s degree in business from Ohio Northern University. Out of college he began a very successful career as a food salesman. He worked for Flickingers and later when it became Sysco. His work brought him to Jamestown NY, in the 1970s. Here he was recognized as one of the top salesmen in the Buffalo area including winning a few vacations and even a car. Through his work he met his wife Anne Webb Straitiff. They were married October 8th, 1976. They settled in Dewittville, where they raised their three children, Sara, Stephen and Richard Jr. Many summers were spent in the pool and on the lake, swimming, boating, skiing and tubing. He was an avid Lionel train collector and amassed quite an extensive collection. In his later years he enjoyed skeet and trap shooting.
After retiring he and Anne spent their winters in Florida vacationing. Upon her death in January of 2015, he made the decision to permanently live there. He moved to Fort Myers to join his brother and some of their friends. There he found love again with his girlfriend of four years, Lynne Davis. They enjoyed their dinner outings and a couple of cruises.
He is survived by his three children: Sara (Dustin) Dilker of Jamestown NY, Stephen (Amanda) Straitiff of Charlotte NC, and Richard Jr. (Janelle) Straitiff of Charlotte NC. His two brothers: Ronald (Dawn) Straitiff of Orchard Park NY, and Robert (Tori) Straitiff of Fort Myers FL. His six grandchildren: Shawn, Kyle and Anna Dilker, Max and Blair Straitiff and Zeke Straitiff. He will be honored by his family with a private graveside ceremony.
