Floyd G. “Gordy” Austin

Floyd G. “Gordy” Austin

Floyd G. “Gordy” Austin, Sr., 73, of Kennedy, passed away at home on Saturday, December 14, 2024. He was born in Jamestown on May 9, 1951, to the late Charles and Lois Johnson Austin.

A man who valued a lifestyle ‘off the grid,’ Gordy made his work as a machinist at Bush Industries and, later, retired from Cummins Engine. His labor did not stop at his occupational door; instead, Gordy relished in working on things on his own property and in his personal time. Gordy treasured the old Western, “Gunsmoke,” and watched it to no end.

Surely, he’ll be remembered for his steadfast enjoyment of family, with special love for his grandchildren. Gordy leaves behind his son, Floyd (Andrea) Austin, Jr. of Kennedy; siblings: Patricia Schmidt, Mary (Bob) Devlieger, John (Joan) Austin, and Charles Austin; grandchildren: Taylor Bianco, Kaden Bianco, Devin Austin, and Xander Austin; a great-granddaughter, Elena Martinez; as well as several nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews.

The funeral service for Gordy will be at 4:00pm Thursday, December 19, 2024, at Lind Funeral Home. The family will receive friends for an hour prior to the service from 3:00pm to 4:00pm Thursday at Lind’s.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to AJ Strong Fund at the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation, 418 Spring Street, Jamestown, NY 14701.
