Douglas G. “Doug” Stanton
Douglas G. “Doug” Stanton, 71, of Frewsburg, passed away on Friday, December 13, 2024 at home after a courageous battle with lung cancer.
He was born April 28,1953 in Jamestown, a son of the late Walter G. and Ann Josephine Carlson Stanton.
Doug attended Jamestown High School. He was a veteran of the US Army where he was a proud soldier of the 82nd Airborne Division stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
Prior to retirement, he was employed at Cummins Engine Co. for 17 years and in earlier years was employed at Falconer Plate Glass Corp.
Doug was confirmed at First Lutheran Church. He was a member of the Frewsburg Fire Department, member of Carroll Rod & Gun Club, lifetime member of American Legion Samuel L. Derby Post 556 and Sugar Grove AMVETS Post 50, and was a past member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, skydiving, and riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle.
Doug is survived by his wife of 52 years, Rose M. Weaver Stanton, whom he married June 3, 1972; a daughter Jennifer (Mark) Tuller; two sons Jeremiah (Dawn) Stanton and Walter (Dorothy) Stanton; eight grandchildren: Jordin (Tyler) Tuller Brown, Sierra (Justin Esquilin) Tuller, Ryan Mackie (Jenna), Alyssa Kramer, Dylan Brown, Courtney (fiancÈ Dylan Dowiasz) Brown, Daltyn Stanton, Paityn Stanton; two great-grandchildren Isla Brown, Gianni Esquilin Tuller, and one on the way River Esquilin; two sisters Kathleen (fiancÈ Peter) Savaree, Sharon (Ronald) Kane; three brothers-in-law Vernon “Butch” Shirey, Anthony Signorino, Fred (Angie) Weaver; a sister-in-law Evelyn (Doug) Weaver; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his mother-in-law Elfrieda Weaver; a brother-in-law Thomas Weaver; two sisters-in-law Hildegard Weaver Repine, Ursula Weaver Signorino; and a nephew Joseph “Joe” Signorino.
A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Friday, December 20, 2024 in Zion Lutheran Church, Frewsburg. Pastor Phillip Roushey will officiate. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Frewsburg.
Friends will be received from 6-8 pm on Thursday in Peterson Funeral Home, Frewsburg.
