David Jon Scarpino
David Jon Scarpino passed away peacefully into the arms of our Lord, Jesus Christ on December 2, 2024, at UPMC Chautauqua after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Jamestown, New York on July 11, 1960, he was the son of Dr. James A. Scarpino and Mary Ellen (Byron) Windoft. David graduated from Jamestown High School in 1978, and subsequently attended the Peter Piccolo School of Cosmetology in Buffalo, graduating in 1980.
For many years, David owned and operated his beauty salon David of The Avenue, where he was known as the best hairstylist in the area. He will be sadly missed not only by his clients, but by the local art and music industry with which he avidly surrounded himself during his lifetime. David will be most remembered as a gifted pianist, songwriter and artist to his friends and family. For all of his accomplishments, David was most proud of his daughter, Madison, for whom he loved dearly.
David grew up as a member of St. John’s Catholic Church of Jamestown. In his earlier years, he enjoyed bike racing, snow skiing and soccer. He was responsible for organizing the first City of Jamestown recreation soccer team. David was also passionate about bicycling, boating and water skiing throughout his life.
David was preceded in death by his parents and his loving grandmother, Emily Warner, with whom he had a special bond.
He is survived by his daughter, Madison Nicole, two brothers, Dr. James M. (Valerie) Scarpino and Thomas C. Scarpino; as well as nieces, Lisa Scarpino (Colin Anderson), Dr. Julie Scarpino, Laurie (Tyler) Coccagnia, Holly Scarpino and Morgan (Garrett) Steel and their daughter Gianna Steel.
David’s family wishes to extend a sincere and heartfelt thank you to his doctors and staff at UPMC Chautauqua hospital for their loving care, as well as the blessings of Rev. Paul Cygan.
