D. Craig Short

D. Craig Short

Craig Short, a devoted follower of Christ, peacefully and unexpectedly passed into the arms of Jesus on December 23, 2024. He was a loving and kind husband, father, friend, brother and mentor to many, and was admired and respected by everyone who came in contact with him. Craig had a gentle spirit, was a good listener and spoke few words but with great wisdom. He was a faithful servant of the Lord who humbly but generously loved and supported hundreds of people, from all ages, locally and around the world.

Craig patterned his life on being “interruptible” and ready to lend a helping hand. As a dedicated student of God’s Word, Craig chased after God with passion and a deep commitment to know Jesus and be like Him.

Craig had a great sense of humor and will be remembered for his warm smile. He was a huge fan of March madness, playing canasta, putting together puzzles and playing games around the table with friends and family.

Craig was born in Jamestown, New York, on March 15, 1960. He graduated from Falconer Central School and Syracuse University. Craig began his career in 1983 at Automatic Voting Machine, in Jamestown, and continued in the voting industry becoming a software programmer for state-of-the-art electronic voting machines.

Craig met Kathy, the love of his life, in 1981 and they were married on November 13, 1982. Craig and Kathy were a strong team in opening their home, serving the poor, providing meals, strengthening the Church and encouraging many. They were dedicated members of Levant Wesleyan Church in Falconer, NY, for many years before moving to Lancaster, PA and joining the West End Mennonite Fellowship church family.

Craig and Kathy were blessed with a daughter, Jennifer, in 1985 and a son-in-law, Gary Ashley, in 2023. Craig is affectionately known as the “best dad ever” by his daughter and a supportive and loving mentor to his son-in-law.

Craig is survived by his parents, Donald and Shirley Short of Jamestown, NY, his wife, Katherine (Good) Short, and his daughter Jennifer (Gary) Short, of Lancaster, PA, his sister, Pamela (Mark) Eckendorf, of Falconer NY, a niece, Amy Eckendorf, of Philadelphia, PA and a nephew, Jonathan Eckendorf of Lancaster, PA.

In John 11:25-26: “Jesus said to her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die.'” Though God called home His good and faithful servant, we rejoice in the promise of eternal life and the hope of seeing Craig again one day through Jesus Christ.

A Celebration of Life service will be held in Craig’s honor at 2:00 pm on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at the West End Mennonite Fellowship, 20 N. Charlotte Street, Lancaster, PA. The family will receive family and friends for one hour prior to the service. Light refreshments to follow the service. You can watch the service live on Facebook here: https://www.facebook.com/WEMFLancaster

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made in Craig’s honor to West End Mennonite Church, 20 N. Charlotte Street, Lancaster, PA, 17602 or to The Potter’s House, 261 School Lane Avenue, Ephrata, PA, 17522.
