Samuel J. Mason

Samuel J. Mason

Samuel J. Mason, 71, of Fluvanna, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2024, at UPMC Hamot, surrounded by his family. He was born in Jamestown on July 23, 1953, to the late Joseph S. and Elisabeth “Betty” Careglio Mason.

After receiving his bachelor’s degree, Sam followed in his father’s footsteps, owning and operating Mason Carvings, Inc. Additionally, he opened and co-owned one of Jamestown’s favorite restaurants: The Cherry Lounge.

On Nov. 10, 1984, Sam married the love of his life, Jennifer Migliore Mason. Together, they raised four beautiful daughters, of which Sam had ongoing pride for their gamut of accomplishments.

Sam had great love for his family, both near and far. He still has many extended family members residing in Italy, who he enjoyed visiting and talking with. Likewise, Sam enjoyed spending time with his wife, siblings, daughters, grandsons, and friends here in Western NY and beyond.

Those who knew Sam knew his comedic nature; assuredly, he was forever laughing and joking. These chuckles could often be heard from the course at Moon Brook Country Club or his barstool at the Cherry Lounge. He was an avid golfer and always golfed on days that ended in “Y.” He was also a lifelong fan of the Buffalo Bills, attended all four Superbowls, and enjoyed watching the game from the 50-yard line with his brother.

Sam will be dearly missed by his wife, Jennifer Mason; his daughters: Jessica Mason of Columbus, OH, Sondra (Jack) Freda of Rochester, NY, Jeana Mason of Denver, CO, and Samantha Mason of Binghamton, NY; his grandchildren: Jack Freda and Samuel Freda; his brother, Tom (Nancy) Mason; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Sam was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Jo Montagna.

The funeral service for Sam will be held at 11 am Monday, Nov. 25, 2024, at Lind Funeral Home. Rev. Marcin Porada of Holy Apostles Parish will officiate.

The family will receive loved ones from 1-3 pm and from 5-7 pm Sunday, Nov. 24, 2024, at Lind’s.

Private family burial will be in Fluvanna Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Susan Center, the American Heart Association, or the Audubon Community Nature Center.
