Roger Winston Moore
Roger Winston Moore, 81, of Hemet, CA went home to be with his Lord with family by his side on Wednesday, October 30th at Hemet Global Medical Center after battling with Stage 4 Lung Cancer then developing pneumonia.
Roger was born January 21, 1943, in Corry, PA. His family lived, and he grew up, on a family farm around the small town of Sherman, NY. He was 1 of 5 children. He reminisced often of his childhood farm days, where he rose daily ~5am to milk the cows and do other farm chores.
He graduated from Sherman HS, class of 1960, then immediately enlisted in the USAF – his milking days were done, as he would say – where he served his deeply loved country for 4 years. He met and married his first wife, Glenda, mother of his 2 dearly loved daughters, in NY in 1962. The blizzard of 1967 blew the young family all the way to the west coast! He couldn’t find work in Northern CA, so sunny SoCal is where they landed! No more shoveling snow! They divorced in 1979. He became involved in the booming “computer” field. He loved people, planning, and getting things done, so quickly rose to Upper Mgt. He made a career in the now known “IT” field. He was a die-hard Dodgers, Raiders, and Lakers fan to the day he died, when the Dodgers took their 8th title at the World Series!
He married his 2nd wife, Marlene, in 1981. After raising his 2 stepchildren and retiring, Roger and Marlene traveled the world, including, yet not limited to, his “top 3” trips: New Zealand, the African Safari, and Alaska land tour and cruise. The 2 adventurers spent ~10 yrs on the road in the good ‘ol USA as full time RVers, meeting new friends, visiting family & finding new “sweet spots” all around the land they loved. Their “camp base” for years was Lake Casitas, where they were “Camp Hosts” for other campers and met many new friends, another “sweet spot”.
Roger was sincerely committed to faith in God through Jesus, studying the Bible, his family and friends (he knew no stranger after 5 min), freedom, and having fun, all with a bit of a twisted sense of humor, which even showed up in the hospital room just hours before he died as he sarcastically remarked about how all this tubing wasn’t really doing much.
His children include Cindy of TX, Chrissy of SoCal, and stepchildren Jeff of SoCal, and Kim of OR, 12 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Siblings included older sister Joy (deceased), older brother Ron of Findley Lake, NY, younger brother Jim of Sebastian, FL, and youngest brother Mitch of Sebring, FL
There will be a Celebration of Life service on January 11, 2025 at Cornerstone (pending scheduling approval from Cornerstone Pastor Glen) Church in Hemet, CA.
At the family’s request, please consider donating to his local and truly loved church on his behalf: www.cornerstonehemet.org
