Robert C. Miller
Robert C. Miller, 89, of Stow, NY, passed away Tuesday, November 19, 2024. He was born October 5, 1935, in Buffalo, NY to the late Roswell and Annette Fafinski Miller. He attended a one-room school in Marilla, NY, went to high school in East Aurora, NY, and moved to Ashville, NY during his senior year, graduating from Chautauqua High School in 1952. He served time in the US National Guard. He was employed at Weber-Knapp for 40 years, retiring in 1996. He took a break from the shop for a few years and ran Miller’s TV with his father.
In his younger days he enjoyed trapping, hunting, fishing, bowling, skeet shooting, and pitching softball. He was also a CB radio operator. He enjoyed his woodworking hobby for many years, making over 50 rocking horses, doll cradles, furniture, and smaller pieces. Every family member has something by which to remember him, as well as friends for whom he made pieces of furniture. For 35 years he spent at least a week in Noelville, Ontario, Canada fishing and relaxing on the shores of Lake Nippissing. He and his wife also took a cruise and tour of Alaska.
Bob was a member of the Big Tree Sportsmen’s Club, the Waltonian Club, the Ashville Fire Department and the Magnolia United Methodist Church, transferring to North Harmony Methodist when Magnolia closed.
Bob is survived by his wife, Mary Jane Morton Miller whom he married August 27, 1971, his three daughters, Ellen (Jerry) Fairbank, Kathleen Glotz, Janice (Tim) Blake, and his two sons, Richard (Patti) Miller, and Ronald (Marissa) Miller. He had eighteen grandchildren: Chelsey (Todd) Frost, Jerry (Melissa) Fairbank, Christopher (Korrin) Fairbank, Marrilee Perry, Ashley (Andrew) Caruso, Bethany (Jesse) Strickland, Larry Fairbank, Jaymes (Kristen) Fairbank, Matthew Glotz, Sarah (Chris Castano) Bacchetti, Tim (Jenny) Blake, Tyler Blake (deceased), Thom (Kelly) Blake, Taylor (Matt Phillips) Putman, Tara (Ben) Smagacz, Evelyn Miller, Rosalie Miller, and Remington Miller. He is also survived by thirty-four great-grandchildren and a sister, Shirley Miller Zimmerman, along with nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a baby brother Richard, a grandson Tyler Blake and his first wife and mother of his first four children, Marilyn Miller Hilt.
The family will receive friends from 4PM to 7PM on Friday, November 22, 2024, at the Freay Funeral Home in Mayville (139 S Erie St). The funeral will be held at 11AM on Saturday, November 23, 2024, at the North Harmony Methodist Church (6814 Stedman-Sherman Rd, Sherman, NY 14781). Pastor’s Joseph Osborne, John Bowen and Jennifer Delahoy will officiate. Burial will be in the Magnolia Cemetery. The service will also be streamed on the church Facebook page.
