Lowell W. Green
Lowell W. Green, 91, passed at Buffalo General Medical Center on Saturday, November 2, 2024. An area resident since 1933, he was born at home in Blockville to Everton and Clara Sloan Green. Lowell attended Blockville Primary School and went on to graduate from Panama Central School in 1951. While attending school at Panama, he participated in all seasonal sports but excelled at baseball, in particular.
After graduation, Lowell briefly attended Grove City College before enlisting in the U.S. Army. He was stationed at Fort Gordon, GA during the Korean War.
After discharge, Lowell went to work for the family business, Green Bros. Lumber Co. in Blockville. He performed as the mill supervisor for fifteen years. He subsequently worked at the Green Rock Lumber in Corry, PA. After several years of work at Green Rock, Lowell became semi-retired and took particular interest in speculating and investing in the stock market (with mixed success!).
Lowell was an avid outdoorsman. He was a great trout fisherman, hunted throughout our region and went on big game expeditions with his father, Everton, and his brothers in the western U.S. and British Columbia in the 50s and 60s. He bagged his last deer at the age of 80!
He is survived by two siblings: Susan Rhoda of Hemlock, NY and Gerry Green of Homosassa, FL; a sister-in-law, Cathy Regis-Green of Lakewood; four children: Deborah (Tim) Field of Blockville; Amy (Craig) Jensen of Buffalo; John (Sunny) Green of Quartzsite, AZ, and Matthew (Kelly) Green of Jamestown, two grandchildren, Amanda (Stefan) Gallucci of Buffalo and Jaime Green of Tualatin, OR and a lone great grandchild, Clara Gallucci (named after Lowell’s mother!).
Lowell was preceded in death by his partner, Helen Weaver, and his wife, Mary Ann (Restivo) Green, both of Jamestown. Also, his parents; a great nephew, Scott Green; and his brother George Green.
The visitation will be at Lind Funeral Home, Thursday, November 7th from 4 to 6 p.m. The family would love to see any former Green Bros. Lumber employees there! On Friday, November 8th there will be a light dinner from 5 to 7 p.m.at the Harmony Historical Society, 1943 Open Meadows Road, Ashville, NY for those that are interested. The interment will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery at a later date.
