Betty J. Rowan
Betty J. Rowan, 85, of Jamestown, peacefully passed away Monday, November 25, 2024, at Absolut Care of Westfield. A lifelong Jamestown resident, Betty was born to the late John and Bessie Baker Rowan on June 24, 1939.
Following graduation from Falconer High School, Betty went on to work a gamut of office jobs, including her extended career as a secretary for Chautauqua County Social Services.
The outdoors brought Betty utmost joy. She was an avid biker, cycling with the Hollyloft group for years. Additionally, she could often be found walking or kayaking, whether locally or in Florida. A giddy snowbird, Betty loved having her own place and soaking in the winter sun down south.
Faith ran deep in her living. Betty spent endless hours volunteering in support of the arts, both at Chautauqua Institution and at the Reg Lenna Civic Center for plays. Much to the comedic value of her family, she even volunteered at the Bills Stadium!
Betty, too, held never-ending learning in high regards. She often met friends at Chautauqua for lectures and concerts, while spending many days at the library.
Betty will be fondly remembered by her closest nieces, Dawn Piazza and Barb DeCastro as well as her close cousins, Phil Baker and Jackie Hopkins.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Mickey “Forest” Baker and by her sister, Shirley Keyes.
In keeping with Betty’s wishes, no services or visitation will be observed. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the James Prendergast Library, 509 Cherry Street, Jamestown, NY 14701.
