James H. “Jim” Snyder
James H. “Jim” Snyder, 87, of Woodmancy, Road Randolph, passed away Saturday, September 14, 2024 at the Chautauqua County Nursing and Rehab Center in Dunkirk,NY.
He was born November 9, 1936 in Salamanca, the son of the late Howard H, and Adele (Jorenby) Snyder. Jim was a 1954 graduate of Randolph Central School and was a Veteran of the United States Navy, where served as a Radar Man from September 14, 1954 to October 3, 1957 Post Korean War. He retired as a self- employed carpenter and built many homes in the area. Earlier on had worked as a Carpenter with Local 66 Carpenters Union, where he helped build the Brocton Prison, Fredonia State College, Roger Torey Peterson Institute and I-86 Bridge Construction.
Jim served on the East Randolph Cemetery Board, was a member of the Coldspring Fire Department, Jamestown Am Vets and, Randolph American Legion Post 181. He served as a former East Randolph Mayor, East Randolph Fire Company, Randolph Loyal Orderof the Moose and was a barber shop quartet member with the Salamanca Barber Shoppers. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing flying airplanes, water skiing and snowmobiling.
He is survived by his long-time companion, Betty (Milks) Atkins, three daughters; Joann Lyon of Horseheads, NY, Dr. Sandra Jensen of Hamburg and Stacy Person of Grand Island, NY, 6 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild and a sister, Delores Biscup of Springville.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Adele and a brother Frank Snyder.
As per Jim’s wishes, there will be no services held. Inurnment will be in the East Randolph Cemetery.
