Salvatore (Sam) Lisciandro
Salvatore (Sam) Lisciandro was born June 3, 1938 in Palermo, Sicily to Giovanni and Concetta (Ferrara, Gioia) Lisciandro. He came to Jamestown at the age of 12 along with his brother Joseph and mother to unite with his father after immigrating to the United States.
Sam attended local schools and at the age of 18 started work at MRC as an inspector. In March of 1957, he joined the US Army and served three years with the 4th Armored Division in Texas and Germany. In 1960, he returned to his job at MRC and continued his employment for 46 years, retiring in 2003 from his job as a Quality Final Inspection Supervisor.
An avid golfer, he liked to play the skins game at South Hills, where he was a member for many years. He loved to bowl, play bocce in the Catholic League, play cards, as well as spend evenings dining out and dancing.
He was a member of the (former) Jamestown Moose, Lakewood Rod & Gun, Celeron American Legion, Fluvanna War Vets and the Catholic Celtic Club.
He is survived by his brother Joe (Carol) Lisciandro of Lakewood, four children (and 17 grandchildren) Vincent (Julie) Lisciandro of Webster [Allison, Jason], Robert (Cheryl) Young of Texas, Matthew ( Arielle), Kimberlynne ( Nathan Pratt), Rachel (Peter Williams), Jonathan, Andrew, Daniel (Zoe), Joshua, Noah, Isaiah], Jay (Mary) Young of Jamestown, [Erin (Todd Lewellen), Aimie (Ben Boatwright), Kaylie (Andrew Lindstrom)], Dana (Rick) Gardner of Frewsburg, [Morgan, Kamryn, Bruce], 14 great grandchildren, and fiancÈe Joanne Mansfield of Jamestown.
He was proceeded in death by his wife of 42 years, Donna (nee Cameron, Young) on June3, 2012; siblings Luigi (Tomasina) Lisciandro, Maria (Frank) Lionetti, Sarafina Lisciandro, Enzo (Elsa) Gioia, Maria (Pietro) Greco, Mario (Franca) Gioia, and Franca (Rudi) Groiss.
The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Sunday in the Falconer Funeral Home. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery, Falconer.
Friends will be received by the family from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday in the Falconer Funeral Home.
