Myrtle M. Skiba

MAYVILLE- Myrtle M. Skiba, 90, of Mayville, NY, passed away at her home on Sunday, August 25, 2024, following an extended illness. She was born in Waterford, PA, the daughter of the late Ray W. and Ruth Barton Chapman.

She had attended the Yaple one-room schoolhouse in West Greene, PA, and was a 1952 graduate of Academy High School in Erie, PA.

She married her husband, George Skiba Sr., in 1957 and moved to Mayville in 1958.

Myrtle worked at Standard Portable in Mayville, NY for over 30 years. She was a member of the VFW and American Legion Auxiliaries in Mayville and the North Harmony Senior Citizens.

She is survived by a son, George Skiba Jr. of Mayville and daughter Teresa Brady of Lakewood and Lorraine Brandi of Ashville, grandchildren, Megan Brady of Falconer, Kelly (James) Piercefield of Pittsboro, IN, Christine (Mark) Templar of Victor, NY, and Adam Brandi of Panama, great-grandchildren, Reagan and Holden Trask, Brady and Holly Piercefield, Chance and Sofi Templar and Sophia Carlson-Brandi, her sisters Lois (Harvey) Smith and Kathleen Fox, and brother, Dale Chapman all of Waterford, PA, her sisters-in-law, Donna Chapman and Barbara Heim of Waterford, PA, Joan Rearick of CO, Phyllis Vrobel of Meadville, PA, and brother-in-law Max (Delores) Skiba of Titusville, PA, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by brothers Ray Jr, Russell (Tuffy), Harry (Butch), Warren, and John Chapman, and sisters Julia Carniewski, Florence Kennerknecht, Marjorie Lenart, Alice Polohonki, and Mary Ann Baker.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 7 PM on Friday, August 30, 2024, at the Freay Funeral Home in Mayville (139 S. Erie St). A graveside service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, August 31, 2024, at the Bear Lake Cemetery in Bear Lake, PA (7620 PA-958, Bear Lake, PA 16402). The Rev. Cathy Smith will officiate.
