Susan L. Abbey
Susan L. Abbey, 74, of Kennedy, NY passed away peacefully following a brief illness on January 20, 2024, at UPMC Hamot Hospital in Erie, PA.
Sue was a life-long resident of Kennedy, NY. She would have never had it another way. She remained close to, and greatly cherished, many of her friends from childhood. Sue was a graduate of Falconer High School in 1967, and on August 22, 1969 she married Wayne E. Abbey and spent her life with him until his passing in 2014.
Sue spent her earlier married years as a stay at home mom and a part-time librarian at the Kennedy Free Library. Later on, Sue was employed at Truck-Lite for many years until her retirement in 2012, accruing even more life-long friends.
More than anything, Sue enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She relished the holidays and loved having company at the house. Visits were usually an all-day event. She was also an avid reader and spent many years devoted to Kennedy Free Library supporting its many causes to serve the community. She was not a stranger at the Casino either. She enjoyed playing mostly the ‘Kitten’ games and proved to be quite lucky. And then there’s Elvis, need say no more!
Sue is preceded in death by her father and mother Cleatus and Rhea Shuart, her husband Wayne and his father and mother Wesley and Meda Abbey, her brother David Shuart, nephew James Shuart, and her beloved cat Sohpie who no doubt ruled the household.
Sue is survived in death by her sons Brent Abbey (Lisa Teboe) and Derek Abbey of Falconer NY, her grandsons Seth Abbey, Nathan Abbey (Samarie Waddington) of Falconer and Alexis Abbey of Erie, PA, her brother-in-law Derwood (Debbie) Abbey, many nieces, nephews, cousins and her new rescue kitten Graceland.
Viewing hours will be held at the Falconer Funeral home on Thursday January 25th from 4:00-7:00 p.m. The memorial service will be held at the funeral home on Friday January 26th at 11:00 am, followed by a reception for family and friends at the Kennedy First United Methodist Church.
We would appreciate any memorial donations to be made to the Kennedy Free Library or the Kennedy Volunteer Fire Department. Visit our website at www.falconerfuneralhome.net to send a message of condolence.
