Florence Turner, age 90, of Spartanburg, SC, died peacefully on January 16, 2024. Florence spent many years in Trappe, Pennsylvania where she raised her children and had a successful business selling antiques, collectibles, and furniture that she refinished. She enjoyed flea markets and volunteer work, serving with the Trappe Ambulance Co and as a Cub Scout den mother. She was an exceptional cook who enjoyed preparing meals for her family.
In later years, Florence moved to Sherman NY, where she was a volunteer with the Sherman Fire Department Auxiliary. She enjoyed helping to organize and prepare fundraiser barbecues for the Fire Department. One of her favorite pets was her dog Jebbie, who was known for howling every day at 5:30 pm when the Sherman fire whistle sounded.
Florence collected Department 56 houses and accessories which were displayed throughout her home in Sherman. Her home and yard brought joy with displays of her many Halloween and Christmas decorations.
Florence is survived by her children, Patricia, Theodore (Betsi), and Daniel Turner, her grandchildren, Heather, Daemon, Zack, Patricia, and Erica, her great-grandchildren, her sisters, Joan and Patricia, her nieces,
Florence was predeceased by her former husband, Neil, her parents, Joseph and Agnes and her sister in, law Marilyn, with whom she was close.
The family would like to thank the devoted staff at Terra Bella, Spartanburg, who provided compassionate care to Florence. Additional thanks go to the many residents there who shared their friendship and to her niece Pam (Paul) and neighbors Dan and Judy who provided loving friendship and support to her for many years when she resided in Sherman, NY.
Funeral arrangements are with Freay’s Funeral Home, Mayville NY on January 27th. Calling hours will be from 10 am-12 pm. A service will follow at noon.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Sherman Fire Department, 122 Park Street, PO Box 574, Sherman, NY 14781.
