Janis Gale Rounds

Janis was born in Jamestown to Wilbur and June Austin on Dec. 17, 1950.

She had a long career with the Postal Service for 33 years starting in 1979 with the last 21 years as Post-Master of the Gerry Post Office, retiring in 2012.

Janis had a never ending love for animals. They were her true passion throughout her entire life. She fostered abused and stray animals for decades giving them loving homes. She was also heavily involved with the Gerry Rodeo serving as organizer of the dining hall for many years.

Janis is survived by her husband Paul Rounds who she married June 27, 1997; daughters Tina Cochran of Jamestown; Tammy (Darren) Kesby of Bemus Point; seven grandchildren, Nicholas Backer of Gerry, Ashley (Holdon) Russell of Jamestown, Rylee Backer of Silver Creek, Brooke Kesby of Bemus Point; Shane Kesby of Gaston, SC, Austin (Ashley) Kesby of Gaston, SC, Taylor (Brandon) Ambrose of McDonough, GA; seven greatgrandchildren Summer Backer, Harper Russell, Willow Russell, Remi Russell, Olivia Kesby, Hope Kesby, Hunter Kesby; a brother Rolland Austin of Falconer; three sisters Donna Austion of Lakewood, Deborah (Ralph) Passage of Smethport, PA, Susan Wright of Celoron.

She is predeceased by her parents Wilbur and June; two sisters Margaret and Lynn; and a brother

William “Billy.”

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Falconer Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home and one hour prior to the memorial service Sunday. Rev. Doug Penhollow will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be donated to Dawn Thompson for her rescue efforts at 3710 Ross Mills Road, Falconer, NY 14733.
