Glenda D. Nelson
Glenda D. Nelson, 63, of Falconer, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2023, in Star Hospice House after a courageous battle with cancer.
A lifelong resident of the area, she was born June 17, 1960, in Jamestown, the daughter of Glenn E. and Darlene I. Custer Bloss Jr.
Glenda was a 1978 graduate of Falconer High School and was employed for 21 years at the former Jamestown First Baptist Church. Before retirement, she was employed by UPMC Chautauqua.
Glenda was a member of the Levant Wesleyan Church. She enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren, who brought her great joy. She was also an avid New York Yankees fan, loved planting and gardening, and her sunflowers filled her days with smiles.
Glenda leaves behind a legacy that is defined by her faith in Jesus Christ. Her strength and joy as she relied on God throughout her battle with cancer were evident to all those around her. The staff at UPMC Hillman shared that they were encouraged and inspired by her during treatments, and she loved them like family.
She was an example to anyone in her company of how to treat others. She never had to speak a word about her faith for people to know that she was a child of God. Always focused on loving those around her, she was constantly in touch with the moods, challenges, and struggles of those around her.
Glenda, the most beautiful thing about you is that you have never had a clue how beautiful you are. Your humility, kindness, and caring have been a gift to all who know you. Knowing you has made us all better people. The circle of people whose lives you’ve touched is greater than you would ever let yourself believe. We are, each one of us, better humans because we have been blessed to have had you in our lives.
Another circle now watches over you from Heaven’s windows. May you feel comfort and love from your circle of Saints and know that they are always near. God bless you, dear Glenda. May He hold you in the palm of His hand. You are precious, you are loved.
She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Keith S. Nelson, whom she married Aug. 9, 1980 in the First Baptist Church, Falconer; two children: Amanda (Nicholas) Prugar of Harmony, PA and Daniel (Nicole) Nelson of Falconer; four grandchildren: Aurora and Diondre Prugar and Noah and Hannah Nelson; her mother Darlene Bloss of Gerry; three sisters: Jacqueline (Brian) Shannon of Jamestown, Jill (Ray) Webb of Newport, NC, Gisele (Warren) Moses of Thurmont, MD, and countless nieces and nephews.
Her father, Glenn E. Bloss Jr., preceded her death on July 7, 2020.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the Levant Wesleyan Church. Pastor Al Myers will officiate. Her final resting place will be in Pine Hill Cemetery, Falconer.
Friends will be received by the family from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday in the Falconer Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to Levant Wesleyan Church, Star Hospice House, or Hillman Cancer Center of UPMC Chautauqua. You may leave memories or words of condolence at www.falconer funeralhome.net.
