Clifford W. “Cliff” Smith
Clifford W. “Cliff” Smith, 90 of Cassadaga, passed away Monday, Aug 14, 2023.
Born Oct. 21, 1932 in Stockton a son of the late Mason H. and Dorothy Wakefield Smith. He was a 1950 graduate of Dunkirk High School.
Cliff was a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving in the United States Army and was Honorably Discharged in 1954 as a Sergeant 1st Class receiving the Korean Service Medal with 3 Bronze Service Stars.
He was employed for 40 years as a billet grinder at Al-Tech Specialty Steel, Dunkirk retiring in 1995.
Cliff was a 62 year, Life Member of the Cassadaga Volunteer Fire Department and in the past served in many capacities including; Chief, EMS Captain and President. He was also a 67 year Life Member of the Cassadaga Memorial American Legion Post 1280 and was a longtime member of the Honor Guard, Life Member of the VFW and Irondequoit Lodge No. 301, F.& A.M..
He enjoyed woodworking, hunting, fishing, travel, taking rides, reading, watching western movies and listening to western music, but above all other interests, he loved time spent with his family.
He was proud of his service to his country, a proud American and proud of the American flag and what it stands for!
Husband of 67 years to Roberta “Birdie” MacCubbin Smith, who he married Oct. 22, 1955; father of Paula (Ron Boyland) Pattison of Cassadaga and the late Clifford W. (Kathy Klaskov of Grand Island) Smith, Jr.(1994); grandfather of Travis (Colleen) Smith, Joel (Skylar Cooper) Pattison, Korinne (late Eric Kesler) Smith, Darla Pattison, and Daniel (Jim) Belgie; great-grandfather of, Samson and Sawyer Kesler, Carly, Madison and Jackson Smith, Alicia (Shawn) Corbitt and Brett Davis; great great-grandfather of Jason Corbitt; father in law of the late John Pattison; brother of the late Alice Meahen, Katherine Snyder, Paul W. Smith and infant sister Helen Smith. Also survived by nieces and nephews.
Visitation Wednesday 4:30-7:30 p.m. in Jordan Funeral Home, Sinclairville with funeral services Thursday 11 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial in Cassadaga Cemetery with military honors provided by Cassadaga Memorial American Legion Post 1280 Honor Guard which he was always so proud to have been a part of.
