Russell Bentley

Russell Bentley, 80, of Garfield Rd., Jamestown, passed away on Thursday, April 27, 2023 in UPMC Chautauqua.

He was born February 24, 1943 in Jamestown, a son of the late Ray and Dorothy Abers Bentley.

Russell was a 1962 graduate of Frewsburg Central School. After graduation he enlisted in the US Army where he served in the 4th Armored Division until being discharged in 1965. He enlisted in the US Air Force in 1966 where he served in the Strategic Air Command until retiring in 1983. After returning to Jamestown, he was employed at Bush Industries until retirement.

He enjoyed drawing, sketching, and artwork and was a member of the Celoron American Legion Herman Kent Post 777. He had a special bond with his companion dog, Lucky.

Russell is survived by his three children: Michael Bentley of Jamestown, Lori (Brandon) Miller of Frewsburg, Alice (Matt Cole) Blair of Dunkirk; eight grandchildren: Brittany Miller, Brent (Bry Fransen) Miller, Kenneth Miller II, Samantha (Taige) Gaeta, Anthony Jenkins, Dana (Skyler Lindquist) Jenkins, Jesse (Katie Hall) Jenkins, Natalia Rusinowski; four great-grandchildren; a brother Ray (Lisa) Bentley, Jr.; two sisters: Rose (Tim) Nelson and Robin (Mark) Miles; his former wife and mother of his children Joanne Werneth Morrison; several nieces and nephews; and good friends Mike (Ly) Genco.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Johnson and Alice Bentley.

A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, May 6, 2023 in the Peterson Funeral Home. Rev. Mel McGinnis, pastor of Kiantone Congregational Church, will officiate.

Burial with full military honors will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Kiantone.

Friends will be received from 4-8 pm on Friday in the funeral home.
