Margaret Ann Olmstead Smith

She was born February 20, 1932, in Warren, PA, the daughter of the late Fayette J. and Ellen Shepard Olmstead.

Margaret was a 1950 graduate of Sugar Grove- Farmington Joint High School. She was a homemaker, raising her four children in Clymer Center.

She was a member of the North Clymer United Methodist Church. She enjoyed knitting, playing Rummy, watching football with her late husband, and watching her grandchildren’s sporting events. Most of all, she enjoyed time with her family.

Margaret is survived by three children: Beth (Jim) Barnes of Jamestown, NY, Doug (Gidgit) Smith of Clymer, NY, and Connie (Jeff) Rice of North Clymer, NY, eight grandchildren: Crystal Surdyk, Holly Snyder, Marcie (Mike) Brown, Lena (Eric) Wiedemann, Nate Smith, Amanda Rice, Kyle (Angela) Rice, and Ryan (Mayra) Rice, twelve great-grandchildren, one sister, Dorothy Allenson of Sugar Grove, PA, and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles E. Smith a daughter, Kaye Smith, four siblings: Martha Cheshier, Glenna Lewis, Evalyn Sumner, and William Sumner, and one son-in-law, Jerry Elder.

The funeral will be held at 12 noon on Monday, April 17, 2023, at the North Clymer United Methodist Church (7795 Route 474, Panama, NY, 14767). The Rev. Kevin Costner will officiate. Burial will be in the Clymer Center Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-7 PM on Sunday, April 16, 2023, at the church, and one hour prior to the service (11 Am – 12 noon) also at the church.
