Sarah A. Benson

Sarah A. Benson, 88, of Winona, Texas, formerly of Jamestown, went home to meet her Lord and Savior Monday, Feb. 27, 2023. Born May 8, 1934 to James and Grace MacDonald, she had been in the United States Navy for three years as a Corp Wave when she met her future husband Warren W. Benson, a Marine.

After a 29-day courtship, they were married May 1954. They were married for over 56 years until his death January 2011. A homemaker, she enjoyed Bible studies, crochet, quilt making, flower arranging and painting, especially porcelain dolls and ceramics.

She volunteered for many years at the Boy Scout Office and the WCA Reference Library. She had been a part of several churches of Christ over the years.

She is survived by two sons, John (Karen) Benson of Ohio; and Robert (Lora) Benson of Frewsburg; a daughter, Grace (Keith) Marzalen of Tennessee; and a daughter-in-law, Christine Benson, of Jamestown; 10 grandchildren; Michael (and his wife, Tiffany, with whom she had made her home for the last eight years) of Winona, Texas, Christopher Benson of Tennessee; Jennifer Hosey, Kimberly Fowler, of Ohio and Jaime Benson of Tennessee; Philip and Joshua Benson of Frewsburg; Erin Grimes of Oil City, Pa; Kyle Marzalen and Taylor Marzalen of Erie, Pa; two sisters; and 17 great-grandchildren. Besides her husband, she is preceded in death by a son, Warren Jr. and a granddaughter, Sarah Benson and one sister.

Memorials may be made to the BSA of Falconer, NY. Private services willbe held locally and in Winona, Texas.
