Robert E. Lake, 90, of Jamestown passed away unexpectedly Wednesday (March 8, 2023) in his home.
A lifelong area resident, he was born April 21, 1932 in Jamestown, the son of the late Edwin R. and Doris Scott Lake.
He was a 1950 graduate of Jamestown High School and had served in the US Air Force from 1952-56 during the Korean War in Korea.
Bob had been employed by the former Inter Royal Corp for 22 years and later by Jamestown Metal Products for 17 years, retiring in 1994.
He was a member of the First Lutheran Church where he had usher for over 50 years and served on the Church Council. He was also a member of the Lakewood Memorial Post 1286, American Legion, a longtime member of the Antique Car Club, and was a member of the Century Club of the American Red Cross. Bob had served as a Cub Scout and Boy Scout Leader for 38 years having received the Silver Beaver Award in 1985.
Besides spending time with his family Bob enjoyed golfing and swimming.
Surviving are two sons: Steven G. (Amy) Lake of Jamestown, Douglas S. (Ann) Lake of Charleston, WV; two grandchildren Randall Lake of Jamestown and Samuel Lake of Charleston, a sister June Willoughby of Jamestown, and a step brother Robert Brown of Jamestown.
He was preceded in death by his wife Jean R. Writeman Lake whom he married April 28, 1956 in First Lutheran Church, who died June 26, 1996, and two step brothers William Brown and Richard Brownell.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in Lake View Cemetery. Rev. Mark Swanson of First Lutheran Church will officiate. Visitation will not be observed.
