James F. Carter
James F. Carter, 86, of Falconer passed away Friday (December 2, 2022) at UPMC Chautauqua.
He was born July 17, 1936 in the town of Ellicott, the son of the late Francis and Rose Blashaw Carter.
Jim graduated from Falconer High School in 1956 and served in the U.S. Army from 1959-1961. He married the love of his life Cindy Rigby on February 20, 1960. Prior to retirement he was employed by Monofrax-Carborundum in Falconer. He also ran his own business pumping septic tanks for many years.
Jim was a proud member of the Kennedy Fire Department where he served as Fire Chief for ten years and Fire Commissioner for twenty years. He was a constable for the town of Poland and a member of the American Legion Henry Mosher Post 638, in Falconer. He enjoyed NASCAR races, spending time with friends and family at his camp, affectionately known as Carter Park, and meeting his friends Ed and Barry every Sunday morning for breakfast. Jim also had his private pilot license and loved to fly his Cessna 172 out of the Kennedy International Airport.
Surviving are two daughters: Brenda (Ken) Everett of Falconer and Laura (Jim) Heldt of Sussex, WI; a son: Michael Carter of Falconer; a brother: Paul Mason; a sister: Dorothy Anderson; six grandchildren: Kendra (Evan Watson), Rex (Jessie), Collin, and Lydia (Josh Derginer) Everett, Brandon and Ryan Carter; and two great grandchildren: Catherine Carter and Foster Everett.
Besides his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his wife Cynthia Carter who passed away October 27, 2009; three brothers: John Mason, Harold “Peewee,” and Gerald “Butch” Carter; and a sister: Virginia Josephson.
A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
