Willard “Bill” Anderson

Willard “Bill” Anderson, 88, of 8 Crescent Ave., Lakewood, N.Y., passed away unexpectedly Sunday evening, Oct. 16, 2022 in his home.

He was born Aug. 11, 1934 in Washington D.C., a son of the late Theodore LeRoy and Margaret Bowen Anderson.

After graduating from Olean High School, he served in the U. S. Marine Corps from 1954 to 1957. He then graduated from Buffalo State Teachers College with a degree in industrial arts, which he taught at Washington Jr. High School in Jamestown. Upon completing his aAdministrative certification, Bill served as vice principal at Washington prior to becoming the district supervisor for industrial arts and various other special areas. In addition, he oversaw the Night School and GED education programs. Bill retired in 1993.

In retirement, Bill enjoyed duck carving, playing golf, and volunteering at the Roger Tory Peterson Institute, and served as president of the Retired Teachers’ Association. Bill was a 51-year member and past master of the Carroll Masonic Lodge. He was also member of Scottish Rite Valley of Jamestown. Bill served on the Village of Lakewood Zoning Board and the Lakewood Historical Committee.

Bill is survived by his wife of 64 years, Nancy J. Anderson; his children: Mary Ellen Webster, Karen Anderson (Wendy), and Kevin Anderson; grandson, Elijah Webster; and his brother, David Anderson (Patricia). He is also survived by nieces and nephews: Kate Anderson (Chris Liston), Joan Anderson, Beth Forman (Andrew), Philip Wightman (Corinne), and Polly Bunce, and great nieces and nephews: Isabel and Annika Liston, Jane and Anna Forman, Megan (Anthony Lessard), Maxwell and Micah (Karen) Wightman, Adam (Julissa) Bunce, and Tiffany Wright, as well as five great-great-nieces.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to at-tend visiting hours from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 20, in the Lind Funeral Home, where a Masonic Lodge Service will be held at 6:45 p.m.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 21, at Lind’s. The Rev. Mark E. Swanson will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery.

Memorials honoring Bill may be made to the Southern Chautauqua County Retired Teachers’ Scholarship Fund, CRCF, 418 Spring St. Jamestown, NY 14701; Roger Tory Peterson Institute, 311 Curtis St., Jamestown, NY 14701; Special Olympics NY, 2821 Wehrle Dr., Suite 7, Williamsville, NY 14221; or to a charity of one’s choice.
