Joan A. Hult

Joan A. Hult

Joan A. Hult, 91, of 152 Aldren Ave., Jamestown, passed away in her home surrounded by friends and family at 1 a.m. Saturday, June 4, 2022.

She will be greatly missed by her family and many friends she made throughout her long and productive life.

A lifelong area resident, she was born Feb. 5, 1931, in Jamestown, N.Y., the youngest daughter of the late David and Mildred Anderson of Norton Ave.

A 1949 Jamestown High School graduate, Joan was active for many years in class reunions and maintained her friendships established there for her entire life.

Upon graduation from JHS, Joan worked a number of clerical jobs in Jamestown before joining First National Bank where she met the love of her life, Richard “Dick” Hult to whom she was married for 61 years until his passing on May 15, 2015.

A devoted, caring and encouraging mother, Joan was active in Boy Scouts with her son Tim as a Cub Scout Den Mother and with Nancy as a Girl Scout leader. Her love of children led her to teaching at Bethel Lutheran Church’s nursery school for several years be-fore she discovered her true calling, a gregarious salesperson for 30 plus years as a Tupperware Home Parties Manager, running a group of sales associates known as “The Joy Bells” – a name reflecting her attitude toward life: always go forward with a positive attitude and Joy.

A woman of faith, she was for many decades an active member of Bethel Lutheran Church, then later Hillcrest Baptist Church in Jamestown where she enjoyed the traditional service and adult Bible studies. Reflecting her faith and positive attitude she would say: “With God all things are possible.” She encouraged all around her to be whatever you want to be.

Throughout her life she enjoyed knitting, sewing, quilting, cooking and baking. When her family was young, she often knitted matching sweaters and made clothes for herself and Nancy and Tim. Later she enjoyed the challenges and creativity of quilting.

Surviving are her son, Timothy D. (Christine Desrosier) Hult of Los Gatos, Calif.; two grandchildren: Stephen Shafer and Natalie A. Shafer, and a son-in-law, Brett Shafer, all of Jamestown; and dozens of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews scattered from North to South and Coast to Coast.

Many thanks to the personal Aides that provided Joan with her every need in the last months of her life. Your dedicated service, care, love and respect were vital to keeping mom happy and at peace in her last months. Thank you: Kristina A, Terri Lynn B, Patricia B, Natasha C, Cathi D, Jahaira E, Tammie F, Kaylee G, Miranda G, Sara G, Gina H, Mindy H, Patricia H, Carlie J, Macy M, Crisinda O, Haven P, Melinda R, Jody S, Jennifer S, Crystal W, and Tammy W. Many of her Aides reported her attitude and spirit was so good these last months that they all wanted to take “the cutest little grandma home with them.”

Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy J. Shafer who died May 31, 2013, and a sister, Janet Anderson.

Friends and family will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday June 10, in the Lind Funeral Home.

Additional viewing will be held at noon at Hillcrest Baptist Church on Saturday, June 11, with a funeral service to follow at 1 p.m. The Rev. Mark Hinman will officiate. A family burial will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery, Frewsburg, NY., on Monday June 13.

Memorials may be made to Hillcrest Baptist Church, 40 Hallock St., Jamestown, NY 14701 or to the Lutheran Social Services Foundation, 715 Falconer St., Jamestown, NY 14701.
