Paul Joseph McCoy

Paul Joseph McCoy

Paul Joseph McCoy passed away peacefully in his home on Saturday, Dec. 11, 2021, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease.

Paul led a truly remarkable life right from the start as he and his identical twin brother, Peter, entered the world on a leap day down in Tampa, Fla. He traveled the country with his family throughout his father’s career in the U.S. Air Force, always getting into just the right amount of mischief with his brothers. Despite only have six birthdays, an 18-year-old Paul served as a staff sergeant in the U.S. Air Force during Vietnam War.

Following his enlisted years, Paul spent his early 20s pursuing carefree and peaceful adventures while traveling throughout the U.S. He explored swamps in Florida, worked as a ski instructor in New Mexico, and then helped build the Olympic rings and awards podium for the 1980 Lake Placid games. After meeting his wife, Kathy, Paul began his greatest adventure of all as they settled down and raised a family together.

As an avid woodworker, Paul spent his spare time making furniture and creating custom toys and trinkets for his loved ones. He served as a eucharistic minister for many years at St. James’ Church in Jamestown, N.Y., was always on the hunt for a half cup of coffee, dedicated himself to staying physically fit, and enjoyed cheering on the Jamestown Jammers.

Paul is preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Mary McCoy; and his three brothers: Timothy, Michael and Peter.

Paul is survived by his wife, Kathryn McCoy and his three children: Kristen (Ryan) Somers of Richmond Hill, Ga., Jessica McCoy of Jamestown, N.Y., and Andrew (Rebecca) McCoy of Jamestown, N.Y.; two grandchildren: Kathryn Somers and Matthew Somers of Richmond Hill, Ga.

Paul would’ve wanted special acknowledgements for those that helped along his journey: Jennifer Ellman, Charcy Carte, Deanna McClain and the entire staff at Chautauqua County Hospice and Palliative Care.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 22, at St. James Roman Catholic Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Caregivers Program through the Office of the Aging, 610 W. 3rd St., Jamestown, N.Y. 14701.
