John C. Aldridge

John C. Aldridge, 85, of Sherman, N.Y., formerly of Dayton, Ohio, died Thursday, Dec, 2, 2021m at home with loving family at his side.

John was born Aug. 26, 1936, in Dayton, Ohio, the son of Martin and Nina Burden Aldridge.

John spent most of his adult life in Dayton, before he moved to Sherman 15 years ago. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. John was 30 year employee, and a retiree, of General Motors in Dayton, Ohio, where he worked as an engineer designing auto parts. He also worked at Delco Marine, also in Dayton, for 10 years. Upon moving to Sherman, he became active in the community. Together with his companion, Hazel Halter, they became active in organizing Sherman Days for five years and also active with the Yorker Museum. A Mason for 55 years, once in Sherman John was a member of the Olive Lodge. He was a member of the Sherman Community Church and the Vikings. Always active, he enjoyed gardening and mowing the lawn.

John is survived by: his longtime companion, Hazel M. Halter and her family: Gregory (Debbie) Pierson, Orrissa (Bob) Greenwald, and Rhonda (John) DeLorenzo; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Also survived his daughter, Joanne (Adam) Slorp; two granddaughters and two great-granddaughters; a sister, Linda (Bob) Smith; and a brother, Marty (Arlene) Aldridge; and by nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Martin and Nina Aldridge, John is predeceased by his wife, Georgia Aldridge; and three siblings: David, Bob and Juanita.

A graveside service will be held at the Sherman Cemetery spring/summer of 2022.
